Program History
In 2018, as part of our tourism plan, Creative Arts Network Inc. (CAN) launched our on-going Hortensia beautification initiative, a hydrangea planting program. Every year since, except during
the Covid pandemic, CAN has planted dozens of hydrangeas and other plants in downtown Fall River and Fall River Waterfront Cultural District. The impact: hundreds of flowers in bloom throughout the city, honoring our community's deep ties to Portugal, where hydrangeas abound, and enhancing Fall River’s visual appeal immeasurably.

Most recently, in 2024, we planted lavender, butterfly bushes, feather reed grass, and four varieties of hydrangeas. We also installed and
filled urns and containers to brighten up our streets and green spaces.
